I have one question if you don’t mind, regarding the test your knowledge question… What if the hole was at the septum between the left and right ventricles? Would this be any different than the original question asked (between both atrium)? Thankyou
Hi Frances, yes, great question! As I mentioned in the video, deoxygenated blood arrives in the right atrium and enters the right ventricle through the tricuspid valve. With oxygenated blood, it begins in the left atrium and into the left ventricle through the mitral valve. Therefore, it would make it no different as for outcomes with the open septum between the atriums or the ventricles. Mixing of both oxygenated and deoxygenated blood would occur in both situations, prior to being pumped throughout the body.
